چکیده

This paper proposes a novel automatic image registration method designed for urban scenes containing tall 3D objects under significant viewpoint changes. Our method is based on the fusion of two kinds of features: the interest regions and the edge groups, which we believe are more suitable than conventional local textures for such scenes. Many existing methods face matching difficulty either because of the lack of appropriate textures in urban scenes or due to the difficulty in modeling textures for non-planar objects under complex 3D viewpoint changes, especially for boundary regions. Throughout our registration process, the two “feature tracks” interactively support and constrain each other, producing a large number of initial point-to-point correspondences, which are later refined utilizing global context information. The proposed approach has been tested using urban aerial photos of diverse viewing conditions. Experimental results for challenging inputs have demonstrated its effectiveness.

Camera Pose Estimation in Unknown Environments using a Sequence of Wide-Baseline Monocular Images

In this paper, a feature-based technique for the camera pose estimation in a sequence of wide-baseline images has been proposed. Camera pose estimation is an important issue in many computer vision and robotics applications, such as, augmented reality and visual SLAM. The proposed method can track captured images taken by hand-held camera in room-sized workspaces with maximum scene depth of 3-4...

Fusion of camera images and laser scans for wide baseline 3D scene alignment in urban environments

In this paper we address the problem of automatic laser scan registration in urban environments. This represents a challenging problem for twomajor reasons. First, two individual laser scansmight be captured at significantly changed viewpoints (wide baseline) and have very little overlap. Second,man-made buildings usually contain many structures of similar appearances. This will result in consi...

Automatic Registration of Iphone Images to Laser Point Clouds of Urban Structures Using Shape Features

Fusion of 3D airborne laser (LIDAR) data and terrestrial optical imagery can be applied in 3D urban modeling and model up-dating. The most challenging aspect of the fusion procedure is registering the terrestrial optical images on the LIDAR point clouds. In this article, we propose an approach for registering these two different data from different sensor sources. As we use iPhone camera images...

Automatic Fusion of SAR and Optical Imagery based on Line Features

A generic image processing chain for the fusion of very high resolution optical and SAR imagery is developed. It is fast to operate and provides reasonably good accuracy. This method is capable of rapidly registering optical and SAR images based on extracted features rather than on pixels. Indeed, at very high resolution, pixel approaches fail on above ground structures. An approach on a higher...

Change Detection in Urban Area Using Decision Level Fusion of Change Maps Extracted from Optic and SAR Images

The last few decades witnessed high urban growth rates in many countries. Urban growth can be mapped and measured by using remote sensing data and techniques along with several statistical measures. The purpose of this research is to detect the urban change that is used for urban planning. Change detection using remote sensing images can be classified into three methods: algebra-based, transfor...
